The science content includes the three strands of Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour and Science Inquiry Skills. They learn to initiate and refine their responses and use their senses to gather different types of information. They are exposed to change in the world around them, including changes that impact on them, such as the weather, and changes they can effect, such as making things move or change shape. They are exposed to and encouraged to move from a pre-intentional to intentional state, and react to everyday objects, materials and living things. They experience a range of activities that will assist them to attend to and explore the world around them with as much independence as possible. In Stage A students learn that observation and their senses can help them understand the world around them and the objects within it. The three strands of the curriculum are interrelated and their content is taught in an integrated way.The order and detail in which the content descriptions are organised into teaching/learning programs are decisions to be made by the teacher.įrom Stage A to Stage D, students are encouraged to develop their independence as they explore, participate and engage in the world around them.
